Turkey’s archaeology map is too large for one week. Privately, we start from your intent: prehistoric ritual and early cities, Hittite capitals, Homeric Troy, or classical Ephesus—and build a sellable route instead of a museum checklist.

A höyük (mound) is a layered settlement tell. Göbeklitepe, Çatalhöyük, and Arslantepe are UNESCO-backed höyük or prehistoric landmarks with very different visitor experiences. Troy is a mound-rich classical story; Ephesus is a standing Greco-Roman city. Mixing them without geography burns travel days.

Highest-intent prehistoric höyüks

Göbeklitepe near Şanlıurfa leads international search demand—T-pillars, visitor infrastructure, easy pairing with Gaziantep food. Çatalhöyük near Konya shows Neolithic urban life and pairs with Cappadocia arcs. Arslantepe Mound near Malatya (UNESCO 2021) narrates early state formation, palace bureaucracy before writing, and some of the earliest known swords—lower head-term volume than Göbeklitepe, high authority and differentiation for serious archaeology travelers.

Private guiding matters most at höyüks: without context, mudbrick and shelters can feel abstract.

Bronze Age to classical chapters

Hattuşa (Boğazkale) is the Hittite capital—vast, atmospheric, best with Alacahöyük when time allows. Troy pairs with Gallipoli on a private Istanbul extension. Ephesus remains the Aegean commercial giant for cruise and land travelers.
